Janet Carnahan is a mother of three and has lived in Rock Lake most of her life. Her family enjoys the hunting and fishing available in the area. Janet found an interest in the aspects of quilting several years ago when a group of friends would get together for an annual quilt shop trip. For a few years, she just admired the shops, had some good laughs and great food. Then in 2003 she decided it was time to bring some of that Minnesota quilt shop charm to rural North Dakota and she opened Simple Threads. Now the "simple" friends she used to hop with, enjoy the charming and cozy surroundings that she has created in downtown Rock Lake. Because of the economic situation in rural North Dakota, a second shop in Bottineau was opened in July 2007. Janet likes to carry a variety of lines and ideas so that all quilters and those that are resistant to the idea, generally find themselves sucked in and begin visiting for classes, open quilting or just a bite of dessert and great coffee. So, if you are in the area and want to visit a happy place, bring your friends and enjoy some of the hard work Janet has done on the shop. I am sure that there will be something that you can snuggle up with during the wonderful winter storms and frigid evenings. Simple Threads I in Rock Lake unfortunately closed in May 2008, but the Happy Place continues in Bottineau.
